High School Football October 7, 2011

It is no secret that I am not athletic, nor am I a fan of athletic events.  I agree, children learn many valuable skills when participating in sports.  I just disagree with how much money is spent in the sports industry, instead of education.  I will not go any further with my agreements about sports (at least not in this post).

That said, as a School Board Member, I did fulfill my duties to be present and support the students of Tombstone.  I was thrilled to see the JROTC lead the event with the Posting of Colors, the Band and Cheerleaders supporting the team and exciting the crowd.

The high light of the evening evening was the crowning of the Prom court.  Not because the students were dressed so nicely or because they sat in the Corvettes (the Corvette Club of Sierra Vista drive the Homecoming Court around the field), but because our students did something so unselfish and kind for a fellow classmate.  They looked beyond differences and abilities when a group of students nominated a student with Autism for Homecoming King and on this night when I sat if the chilling temperatures with harsh winds (yes, I was in Tombstone) the students of Tombstone High School crowned Timothy Homecoming King.

I could not be more proud of the students for which I devote time as a School Board Member.  I would not have been able to witness such a grand gesture of brotherhood, had I not decided to attend the football game.

Congratulations to students of Tombstone High School  for having the vision that each person is special in their own way.
