Please refer to the minutes for more details about the meeting.
Items I mentioned during my time to report were:
· Kudos to Ms. Burleson, Mr. Seamans, Mr. Gross and Ms. Thrasher for an excellent job for organizing and raising money for FFA.
· I expressed concerns about Internet problem and wanted to know if Qwest/CenturyLink would compensate the district for all the down time.
· I presented the article about Sam Bastion, who received the Eagle Scout ranking for Boy Scouts. I requested that recognition be given to our students who meet goals of success during or after school. The Board Meetings could be the avenue to celebrate these successes and recognize our students.
· “Youth Teach Adults Computers” was another article I presented and suggested Tombstone USD offer a similar program to the community. I recommended this be an idea for the 5‐year Committee to discuss.
· iPads in place of textbooks is happening all over the country. I provided Superintendent Uterhart with an article to spark the interest to bring this technology or other tablet devices to our students. I also recommended this for discussion with the 5‐year Committee.
· Again, I presented the sign-up sheets and encourage participation from staff and parents at the American Legion Family sponsored a golf tournament to support education.
The ARRA Education Jobs fund needed to be discussed. It was motioned, by Dr. Crandall, to look into the staff members who have been here and been frozen in the past and see if the funds could be utilized to “catch them up.”
