Board Meeting March 9, 2011

Please refer to the minutes for more details about the meeting topics.
After the last meeting where there wasn't enough time to review the Board Policies.  It was decided that the edits would be made and added the to the agenda for Adoption.  All Policies for which changes would be requested were included in the Board Packet for review before the meeting.  They were posted for First Reading (in this case, the team 'reading' doesn't mean to be read aloud, just posted on the agenda) on the March agenda

News of the Cheer-leading Team's success was reported during the Superintendent Uterhardt's Report.  A presentation was made to the high schools students from two Mothers who lost their children to prescription drugs.  The powerful message was intended to help the students realize the dangers of taking prescription drugs for recreation.

Several students of Mr. Chambers Cabinet Making class gave a presentation to the Board Members explaining what they learn and do during the class.  Wood work creations such as: newspaper racks, gun racks, stools, cutting boards, and clipboards were shown.  The students presented each Board Member with a clipboard and thank you note.

For the safety of students traveling to sports/academic events the purchase of 14 passenger micro buses was approved.

The biggest news of the meeting was the misunderstanding of a request by Mr. Yale for descriptions of duties by the District Office personnel.  District Office personnel felt their jobs were at risk.  Dr Crandall, Mr Perotti,  and I expressed appreciation of all that they do and assured them their jobs were not at risk.

The Board also approved the use of a district owned vehicle to the City of Tombstone for one week.  It was agreed to support the City of Tombstone in an effort to build a working relationship for future collaboration.
