We started first with a Work Session to review the Board Policies. We began with Superintendent Uterhardt sharing the changes he recommended, then I shared a couple of the policies for which I was suggesting some changes. Unfortunately, 15 minutes passed before we could have any discussion and the meeting began.
Remember, I am not detailing the entire meeting in my blog, because you have access to the minutes.
Because of the short amount of time before the meeting, it was agreed to table the formal Reading of the Board Policies until next month's meeting.
The Mr Rena, Teacher/Coach, and the Wrestling Team attended the meeting to inform us of the achievements they received individually and as a team. They expressed their appreciation to Board for approving their travel. I was very impressed with one boys' detailed account of the benefits for him to attend the Wrestling Meet.
Mr Devere, Prinicpal of the High School, presented a case for the need of another teacher for the upcoming year. The presentation provided statistics for the teacher/student ratio this year and the projected ratio for next year, based on the growth over the past years. Mr. Devere also presented us with several alternatives, if a positions could not added.
Superintendent Uterhardt distributed an Emergency Relief Act to provide schools relief from administrative process burdens earlier in the legislative session. Although, many of these strategies are temporary, Superintendent Uterhardt believes they will be somewhat helpful to the district. We will be looking for more word of these approving the legislative process.
I inquired about the process for changing the policies. Was given an explanation different than that in the Policy Manual. Was told that the process would be verified with a call to the AZ School Board Association.
