Board Meeting December 14, 2011

Please refer to the minutes for more details about the meeting.

Mr. Perotti, supported my concern about a 3 min limit for Board Members.

During my time to report, I expressed a concern that travel policy was not being followed, because there was a request on the agenda for out of state travel, but no travel request form was in the briefcase for our review.

I reiterated Mr. Perotti’s concern with the sale of the high school project.  We’ve done the lean to release funds, yet no construction has been done.  The committal letter states Mr. Smith’s project is worth funding, but doesn’t state they will fund the project.  I expressed my concern that this topic, after being requested to be on the agenda by Mr. Perotti last month, was not on this month’s agenda.

Craig Barrett, former Intel Executive, is now the council chair for Arizona Ready and comments that he makes obviously need to be listened to or considered.

The ABDC Ed Task Force is a legislative committee convened to list the schools for the recommendation in a pilot program of GovNet.  I was a member of the committee and pushed for Tombstone to be one of the pilot schools.  However, we don’t have any recognition for what is happening at our district.  We need to spread the word, specifically, to the decision makers at the Department of Ed and our legislatures.

As a means of getting more funding, I presented Targets give-away in conjunction with the Ellen Show. The community had to vote for the district of their choice. I also recommended instead of sending the letter to request tax credit donation, we should consider what Buena does and explain to the community how the funds were spent last year or the plan the organization has for the funds this year

The first law suit on an employer with regard to the Marijuana Law has been filed, in Arizona. I expressed a concern that our policy may not cover us and suggested that we follow that court case. The outcome could affect us.

Dr. Crandall stated he established the 3 minute time limit, because he was trying to get the Board Reports under control. He did agree to increase our time limit to 5 minutes.  I responded that I didn’t know our reports were out of control.  Usually, I am the only one to report and I pass along information for the district to consider.
