I informed everyone about the Governors Plan for Race to the Top and that each of the County School Superintends are hosting an event to spread the word of the Governor’s plan to create Regional Centers and gather information from us about support from the state level.
I presented several articles about topics for us to consider:
- · schools using locally grown foods
- · public schools opening their own charter schools
- · business advertising on posters in the school to raise money
- · Elks Lodge gave away 800 computers and still had some left. I recommended Karl contact the lodge to be on a list for notification of their next give away to let our students know.
I presented the book, “Stingin’ Stories” written by the students at Tombstone High School under the guidance of Mrs. Fullerton, the Journalism Teacher. I purchased the book at LouLou.com. I think the district should purchase some of the books and sell them to the community.
Tucson USD received a “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” and reported that to their community via the newspaper. I believe we, too, should celebrate our successes by reporting them to our local paper to show all the great things we are doing and acknowledge Mrs. Reames for her “Award of Financial Reporting Achievement”. It is because of our outstanding and dedicated employees that the district also earned a “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting”. Thank you to Mrs. Reames!
At the end of the Law Conference, I attended last week, spoke with a Board Member from another district and we came to realize that we learn all sorts of wonderful things, but go back to our districts, but do not put into action that of which we learned. For the past nine months, as a Board Member, all I have done is report what I have learned, but we haven’t discussed if anything is worth implementing. At this meeting, I requested to a work session be scheduled after conferences to talk about what has been learned and what sort of action plan we can put into place for the topics we will implement.
E-School News, http://www.eschoolnews.com/, a free newspaper with a lot of information for administrators and teachers. I point out sever article related to recent news items or requests I have made of Superintendent. It is free and requested the School Board members to subscribe.
