Board Meeting April 13, 2011

Before the Work Sessions and Board Meeting, I had an opportunity to visit the Huachuca City School and meet several of the teachers.  Thank you to Principal, Tom Yarborough, for the introductions and covering the handful of classrooms while I spoke with the teachers.

There were two Work Sessions scheduled before the Meeting.  Never is there enough time to ask the appropriate questions to get a better understanding of the issues at hand.  First, both representatives regarding the energy savings plan for the district presented their plan and then we were given a presentation about the Accelerated and STAR Math programs.  We were also supposed to see how the teachers were using Promethean Boards and document cameras in their classrooms.  Again, I ask too many questions and didn’t have time to see the entire presentation.

Please refer to the minutes for more details about the meeting topics.

The approval of Superintendent’s performance goals for SY 2010-2011 was tabled.  The members need more time to review the goals and find out from the staff if they believe the goals have been met, since all but one member just began serving two months earlier.

The Approval of a District Response to Intervention (RTI) coordinator was not approved, because several Board Members still have questions to be answered with regard to the position.

I was selected as the delegate for TUSD at the ASBA Delegate Assembly.  Other than the ability to represent Tombstone for policies in the future, I am not sure what I will be doing, but I promise to keep you informed.

If there were any other hot issues you would like to know more about, please do not hesitate to ask for more detail.
