NBMO - Board & Superintendent Relationship

Wow, it has been a very long weekend of debriefing all that I learned at the New Board Member Orientation.  Writing these blogs is helping be ???all the information.

This session about the relationship between the Board and the Superintendent, help me put my role into perspective.

Team Member Roles

1.      The Board

a.      Role is to Govern

                                                              i.      By setting policy

                                                            ii.      By monitoring operations

b.      Accountable to the Community

2.      The Superintendent

a.      Role is to Manage the day to day operations of the district implements policies set by the Board

b.      Accountable to the Board

The characteristics of a well-functioning team were discussed.  The Board and the Superintendent need to seamlessly work together as a team.

It is necessary for us to continuously improve using the cycle of:

• Plan (Board)
• Prepare (Superintendent)
• Act (District)
• Reflect (District)
• Celebrate (District))
