ASBA/ASA Conference - How an Effective Meeting is Run

Dr Crandall, Mr. Perottii and I attended this session.  None of us shared our choices, but we all thought alike for this one.  The reinforces our desire to be as effective as possible.

During this session, How an Effective Meeting is Run, it was reiterated that we must work as a team and alone we have no power.   We discussed how to create an agenda, appropriate tone, proper use of rules of order, controlled public comments, regular reflections to improve performance, and, most importantly, a skilled President makes for an effective meeting.

We heard, again, about the necessity to plan, prepare, act, reflect, and celebrate.  This is becoming a theme for everything thing we do as a board.  With regard to meeting we need to plan the agenda, prepare for the meeting by reading the board packets and asking questions, maintain professionalism and respect of others during the meeting, reflect about the meeting, and celebrate successes.

We received a brief lesson in rules of order for which I asked a question and was called to the front of the class to demonstrate.  As a student, that used to make me nervous.  As an adult, it wasn't so bad.  Several people stopped to ask me if I was the person in the front of the group and thanked me for asking the question.

The students of Tombstone USD can certainly count on me to ask the questions necessary to ensure their educational success.
